Epoxy FAQ

Q: How much does an epoxy floor cost?

A: Budget is always at the top of everyones mind when it comes to planning an epoxy flooring project. Variables include, preparation, crack repair, square footage, removal of previous coating, and material choice. That said, for a 2 car garage, our clients can expect to pay between $1800-$3800. Visit our Flooring Factors page to review how these variables come together to affect the cost of the floor over its lifespan.

Q: What is better Epoxy or Polyurea?

A: Like most things in life, there are trade-offs to the materials used on your epoxy flooring project. These materials include epoxy, moisture vapor barrier epoxy, polyaspartic, and polyurea. To keep it simple. We believe that in our climate, having some form of moisture vapor barrier is essential to the longevity of your floor. Our various epoxy’s have moisture vapor barriers of 10-25lb of hydrostatic pressure, which greatly aids against peeling in Florida’s wet climate.

Because of this and its superior mechanical bond to the concrete substrate we often recommend some form of epoxy be used as your basecoat. Polyaspartic also has advantages. Its UV stable, harder to scratch than epoxy, and has some elasticity. For these reasons we almost always recommend a Poly for the topcoat of your flooring system. These characteristics allow us to coat areas exposed to direct sunlight, and to expect excellent longevity. For these reasons a hybrid system is most common with our customers.

Q: What flake colors can I choose from?

A: During our at home consultation we will bring samples of our 11 most popular colors, as well as an Overview of our Specialty Colors! These sample colors can also be seen on the colors tab of our website.

Q: How long will a Van Delta Epoxy Floor last?

A: While variables such as intended use and location indoor/outdoor, do effect the expected lifespan of our floors, its the materials that make the biggest difference. It comes down mostly to topcoat choice. If the floor is completed with an epoxy topcoat, the customer can expect the floor to look good for 5-8 years. And, while that seems like a long time for a garage floor to last, this longevity is boosted immensely by the use of a polyaspartic topcoat. In which case the floor can be expected to last over 10-15 years.

Q: What contributes to the high price tag?

A: A lot more goes into an epoxy floor system then just painting it on. Watch the effort put into your floor prep and you’ll understand what we mean. Our installers dedicate hours to preparing the floor to accept the first coating.

This includes crack repair, diamond grinding, edging, shotblasting, and de-dusting, all before a drop of epoxy is mixed. While this effort doesn’t change the look on day one, it does ensure the floor will still look good on day one thousand. Another major factor in the cost of an epoxy floor system is materials.

Epoxy and Polyaspartic are inherently expensive. Further more Van Delta uses top of the line American Made materials. Lastly, are the intangibles.. Van Delta employee’s are all licensed, insured, and certified to provide a floor designed to last a lifetime.

We pride ourselves on excellent communication and customer service.

Q: How long will my project take?

A: Speed of installation often will come down to project size, but a two car garage can be completed in one to two days. While many installers will push for a Poly-Poly system, we believe this is only to benefit them. (Polyaspartic dries faster). Why would you want your installers to be in a rush, when the best results often take time. We can always do a 1 day floor install, but only recommend it when it benefits the customer. Once the install is complete, customers can walk on the floor within 24 yours and drive on it after 2-3 days.
